The Catholic Church records in Ireland are going to be available online from this summer. And they’ll be free!
The National Library of Ireland is to give free online access to its Catholic Church records collection online, from summer 2015. This will enable millions of people around the world to trace their roots in Ireland.
- The images will be searchable by parish location only.
- They will not be transcribed or indexed
- The images will be of the microfilms of the original registers, which – in some cases – were in poor condition when the microfilming took place
- The images will be in black and white.
Even with those caveats this is one of the largest free record databases to be made available and will be welcomed by all those researching their Irish Heritage.
