Ashford Castle in Co. Mayo has just been voted the world’s best hotel. And prices start at €850 per night., though the best experience costs over €2,600/night.
Ashford Castle stands in a 350-acre resort in Cong, Co Mayo, and boasts not only a magnificently grand exterior and numerous luxurious rooms – and even a 32 seat cinema – but also striking views of the surrounding area including Lough Corrib.
Visitors can be pampered in the spa, go horse-riding, golf on the championship course or even try falconry.
There are 82 rooms and suites in the hotel featuring the pinnacle in luxury. But the pampering of the staff apparently bring Ashford a level above.
Virtuoso travel advisor Julie Smothers said: “Ashford represents a time stamp of the eras. Its staff members are like warm and inviting walking history books. When the bagpiper greets you at the grounds’ old stone archway, you feel like you’ve entered a fairy tale.”
If you have a spare €3,000 or so handy a night in the Presidential Suite could be an interesting way to blow it. You can find out more at the ashford castle website
